Project is a study room and research laboratory of environmental and agrarian reality involving experts, practitioners, and activists from the area of sustainable agriculture. The exhibition of artists who are engaged in this area, together with the related discussions and accompanying events, aims to articulate the acute problems of today’s globalized agriculture that affect our everyday lives. On the symbolic as well as practical levels, the project proposes several different models of production and distribution, different ways of working the soil, and an approach to networking aimed at creating solidary communities. From 5/10 to 24 /10 there will be a series of informal meetings with small farmers and producers. Tamás Kaszás lives and works in Budapest. In his work, he uses art to develop economic and environmental practice, often using folklore to explore questions of food and agriculture – for instance, Famine Food (2011, exhibited at the 12th Istanbul Biennial). He often collaborates with his partner Anikó Loránt as part of the Ex-Artists’ Collective duo. He is also involved with Krisztián Kristóf on their joint Randomroutines project, and has exhibited as part of solo and group exhibitions at museums and galleries such as Open Space, Vienna; SMAK, Ghent; Ludwig Museum, Budapest; and Storm Project, Utrecht. Asunción Molinos Gordo is a Spanish artist. Her work focuses on social and cultural changes in rural communities of today’s globalized world. To this end, she uses photography, videos, installations, and other media. Her work has been displayed in Spain, UK and Egypt (for instance, La Casa Encendida, Museo Patio Herreriano, CAB, La Fábrica, The Townhouse Gallery, and ARNOLFINI Art Centre) and she participated in the Sharjah Biennale 12 (2015). Her principal work WAM (World Agriculture Museum) deals with a propagandistic narrative of agricultural museums to uncover mechanisms of the hidden. She explores social and political impacts of agriculture. She is a graduate of Universidad Complutense in Madrid. She lives and works in Spain, Egypt and Oman. She is represented by Travesia Cuatro Gallery.
Tomáš Uhnák is a Czech artist, writer and member of the art group P.O.L.E. He uses gastronomy in art as a political tool. He is the head of the Food Sovereignty Initiative that promotes eco-agriculture and community-based agriculture as one of the ways to fight global challenges of food distribution. He considers gene banks and seeds to be cultural possessions and embraces collectively shared property as well as the theory of engaged chef and his role in society. His texts are regularly published in A2, A2larm, 7. generace, Pyr., Bioměs.čn.k, Den.k referendum, and Solidarita. He surveys Czech food processing, possibilities of food self-sufficiency and the role of migrants in food production. Together with Jiří Skála, he has been researching tertiary time.
Vratislava Janovska is a researcher working at the Faculty of Environmental Sciences, Czech University of Life Sciences, Prague. She holds a PhD degree in Landscape Ecology, the final doctoral thesis on the topic The causes and consequences of farmland fragmentation. She is interested in agricultural landscape structures, land tenure security and access to land, especially how is it all connected with small local initiatives, such as CSA. Since January 2015, she is a founder of small NGO CooLAND (www.cooland.cz) as she believes that the connection among the researchers, farmers, public and other stakeholders is the best way how to learn from each other. She is also a member of the national network for CSA in the Czech Republic – AMPI (http://asociaceampi.cz/).
